I am new to using ignition gateway/designer.
I was able to connect ignition gateway to the connected components workbench SIM PLC. I launched Designer and for a start, I tried to create a button, attach the "input" tag to the button but when I pressed the button, nothing happens. If I click the input from connected component, I could see the output in Designer which shows they are communicating. If I click the input tag in Designer, I get the attached error. what could be the problem?
You cannot write to a PLC's inputs.

Thanks pturmel for your quick response. How can I control the PLC input from Designer using a button?
You can't. PLC inputs are always designed to respond to the hardwired inputs. It seems you're missing some of the basics of PLCs and how they work.
Describe what you are trying to do and you'll get help here.
Tip: Correct capitilisation of "Ignition" and "Connected Components Workbench" signifies that you are referring to a branded component or, in this case, software rather than some generic thing. I had to look it up to see if there was such a thing. Capitals matter.
