I'm not sure when this feature was added, but I just noticed "spotlights" under the view menu, which provides some of these overlays that I had previously suggested. This is great!
I recently upgraded from 8.1.27 to 8.1.35 and I noticed that hints (I think that's what they'd be called - all the "tooltips" that show while in the designer with view/template/tag paths when you hover over them) are now instant. There's no delay at all - which can be annoying at times because it gets in the way of clicking. Perhaps it's just a bug that'll be fixed the next time I launch the designer, or is there a new option somewhere?
After a restart and opening designer again, the hints are still instant.
