I have a system with multiple users, and they will be logging in to the system intermittently. I want to create a shortcut that will automatically appear on the desktop for each user when they log into the Windows system, so they can easily open an Ignition project.
Is there a way to set up such a shortcut for all users on the machine, preferably through a script or any other method that ensures it’s available as soon as they log in?
There are many flavors of “windows” machines. Depending on the OS, could require different techniques. Not really an Ignition issue, more Microsoft. Try googling public desktop shortcut for your particular OS version.
Show us a neatly cropped screenshot of the C:\Users\Public\Desktop folder with the name of the shortcut (which should be in that folder) selected (highlighted).
This doesn't matter. The configs are still set up on a per-user basis unfortunately.
The old solution I came up with involved setting up one user, then copying those client launcher configs to a common folder off the root of the hard drive, then modifying a shortcut to point to that config.
The new solution for 8.1+ versions would be to use the new 8.3 launcher and create a .vision file or URL that points to the proper project and it will just work without configuring it for each user.
