How to manage energized line colors across connected sections in a Perspective single-line diagram?

Hi everyone,

I’m building a single-line diagram in Perspective and would appreciate some advice on managing energized states across connected line segments.

For my current display, the condition for showing a section in red is:

  • The associated relay measures at least 50 V.

  • The associated CB status is Open.

The challenge is that one electrical section consists of several separate graphical line segments. All segments belonging to that section need to share the same energized state and turn red together.

For example, in the attached screenshot, LV 31 meets the voltage and CB status conditions, so all line segments in the connected section below it should turn red, including branches belonging to that same section.

There is also a shared downstream section connected to LV 31 and LV 31-1. If either incoming section meets the condition, all graphical line segments belonging to that shared section should turn red.

Currently, I use custom properties with tag bindings for the CB status and voltage, then expression bindings to determine the line colors. This works, but maintaining the dependencies becomes more complicated as the diagram grows, especially because the connection layout differs between equipment views.

What would be a maintainable way to structure this?

  • Define one Boolean custom property per electrical section and bind all its graphical segments to that property?

  • Calculate section states using Expression Tags or UDTs?

  • Maintain a separate representation of the connections and derive each section’s state from it?

I’m particularly interested in how others group graphical segments into electrical sections and handle shared sections supplied by multiple sources without duplicating the same expressions throughout the view.

Thanks!
