I can't drag images into image manager 8.3.8

Hi everyone,

when I drag an image from the virtual machine to the image management window, a red circle appears, preventing me from uploading it. The file is inside the virtual machine where the designer resides. The gateways are on another machine in both cases (8.1 and 8.3).

If I use the UPLOAD button, it works.
With Ignition 8.1.52, dragging was possible.

Are you having this problem too?

Hello, you should drag it directly into the view so it´s added to the Image Management.

you can see how it works here:

Images and Icons in Perspective | Ignition User Manual

Hi, thanks,

yes, I knew that. The problem is that I need to update, for example, 300 icons in folders defined in Image Management, and I found it convenient to drag the folder.
I was wondering if the drag & drop logic has changed from 8.1 to 8.3.

Thanks

For a similar cas I locate the image folder and place all the images directly there. I´m not sure whre the folder is. You may find in this forum where is that located. I found this conversation may be helpful.

Hi,
Yes, the problem isn't inserting images with the UPLOAD button; it's just that dragging and dropping doesn't work in 8.3 like it did in 8.1.

That was the only "problem." That's why I was asking if the dragging and dropping logic has been changed in 8.3.

Thanks
Bye

This is/was a known issue and I thought I found a workaround at one time. Try dragging the images on top of another image and see if it works that way.

I have tested and not work.

what exact version are you on? Your title suggests 8.3.8 but want to make sure. There were some fixes for the image management in 8.3.5 I believe.

Ok, I swear I found a workaround for it. I'll see if I can get online with a project next week and try some things.

@paul-griffith is this one still a bug?

Nothing in the drag and drop code intentionally changed. There were other issues with image management fixed in 8.3.something, but this wasn't something anyone had reported to us. It's entirely possible the change isn't related to image management directly, but to e.g. the Java version or other platform changes.

OP, you should file a support ticket so we can investigate and start a formal bug ticket.

Just tested v8.3.8 in my environment, drag and drop to image management works fine:

Gateway in Debian 12 VM

Designer in Debian 12 bare metal w/ KDE Plasma desktop, on X11.

My environment where not work.

Gateway win 10 iot with ignition 8.3.8

Designer win 10 pro in virtual machine VMware

I just re-ran my test with the designer in Win10 Pro, the latter being in a Linux KVM (virt-manager + virt-viewer) guest. Same gateway (different VM on same internal network). Image drag and drop (from windows Explorer) worked perfectly.

I suspect your problem is VMware. You should open a support ticket.

Are you trying to drag and drop from your windows host to the VM inside the VM? I doubt that will work. If you dar and drop the files into the VM file system first then try dragging and dropping them into image management, that would probably work better.

That's what I do, drag & drop, I do it from inside the VM but it doesn't work.

I did my 2nd test, above, inside a Win 10 Pro VM, just like you. But with a different hypervisor. Works for me, but not for you. Which strongly suggests your choice of hypervisor is to blame. If you cannot open a support ticket for some reason, you should at least experiment with other hypervisors. Or make sure your hypervisor is fully up-to-date.

Ok i Will try to update vm , but when i come back from holiday, 31 August.. :head_shaking_vertically:

Thanks
