Ignition 8.3 RAM memory

Hi,

I am working on SCADA using Ignition Perspective 8.3 on a plant with one Gateway, one PLC, one database for recipes, Core historian and about 6 Perspective clients (during the normal production there will be 4 of them but during tests it may be even 6). In the project there will be over 10 000 tags. The Gateway is running on a Virtual Machine (the system is Windows Server 2022 Standard) with 8GB of RAM.

My question is about the usage of RAM memory by Gateway processes. How much RAM memory should I give to the Gateway? We have a local server at the office where we test the SCADA with PLC and the RAM usage is around 1GB (the limit is set to 2GB). I am afraid that the usage of RAM on the server on plant will be bigger and I am not sure how much RAM should I give to Gateway and how much should I leave to the Virtual Machine.

Thank You

According to this guide your project is a medium size project requiring 4 CPU cores and 4 GB memory…..so you are good for a starting point.

I would encourage you to create a separate VM for the database so that it doesn’t fight Ignition for resources.

I also prefer Linux OS (Ubuntu) for the VM instead of MSFT. Usually IT policies have rules for this so it may not be a choice, but it is a conversation worth having.
