Greetings. We have a new instance using Edge Panel for two HMI clients, one Vision project and one PLC connection. The PC seems a little sluggish with only the local client running. The minimum PC requirements on the web say 1 GB RAM. We have 4 GB RAM. What are the real minimum PC requirements? Any experience or advice optimizing?
There are applications that can run in the quoted minimum, after editing ignition.conf to limit the gateway memory usage.
There are many applications that will run fine with 4GB, but keep in mind that the memory allocated for the gateway will compete with memory allocated by the Vision Client, and some needs to be left over for the OS, too.
Without knowing how many tags you are trying to poll and how fast, and how busy your UI may be, there's simply no way for us to tell what you might need.
(It is fairly common for newbies to make far more Ignition tags than they need, bogging down PLC comms. Drag and drop is far too convenient for protocols that support enumeration of the PLC address space.)
IMO minimum specs should be taken with a large grain of salt, for anything not necessarily just Ignition. In my experience minimum specs do not provide a good experience for anyone involved.
I won't go any lower than an i3 (at least 8th gen, the newer the better of course) and 8GB RAM with an M.2 of some sort on principal. Aspect ratio must also be 16:9 if we're talking AIO PC.
I look at performance/$ to find a good middle ground for both me and the end user.
