Hi Folks,
I’m new here, and looking to spin this up in docker container on my laptop. I found a great guide here:
However, I cannot find any documentation on “IGNITION_EDITION” variable thats referenced here:
All the examples set this to “standard” but I’m just getting started and will only be using the Maker Edition, so I’m not sure what to set it too.
The 8.1 page for the docker Ignition manual says you can set it to standard, edge or maker, so try using "maker" in place of "standard" in those examples?

Bingo, thats exactly what I was looking for! Thankyou!
Maybe its not needed in 8.3 now ? if not, it should be simple to update the examples and take it out.
… or if it is used, add it back into the variables docs for 8.3

Glad that worked!
If you create a container without declaring that variable, you just get prompted to select what Ignition version you want when you first start the gateway and navigate to the page. I expect the docs will be updated eventually.
Would you mind marking my answer as the solution for the question when you have the time?

One supplemental note I'll add here is that w/ 8.3 docs, we actually split out the Platform Environment Variables to a separate page, linked from the Docker image docs:
This is because many of the environment variables actually apply to Ignition itself, independent of the Docker image; you can use the ones on the page I linked in traditional installations (such as in Linux systemd service override configurations, or even Windows service configurations (via the registry)). Hope this helps clarify where these variables went!
