Ignition gateway Remote OPC DA Connection Issue

If the gateway is running on a different machine, does it allow remote connection? And to connect to a remote PLC/DCS, is it necessary to have its IP address and ensure both machines are on the same network?

If using OPC-UA, your connections to PLCs and other PCs/servers should work fine as long as your network is configured properly. This means if it's on a different subnet that there is a router in place to route the traffic, and all devices on both sides of the router are pointing to that router or another router as their default gateway that knows the proper route to connect between the different networks. This is all basic networking and routing concepts.

Remote connections with classic OPC are known to be troublesome (because remote DCOM sucks). That is the reason IA offers the OPC COM Tunneller module, to make it possible for an Ignition gateway that has a local OPC COM connection to share it with other gateways.

Don’t use this… just don’t. I’m trying to get it removed from the product.
