Ignition Perspective in Windows Server 2012

We are trying to use Ignition Perspective from a machine with Windows Server 2012, but it gives us the error in the console:

09:03:31.095 [AWT-EventQueue-0] ERROR designer.main -- Unable to start JXBrowser - modules Perspective may not work correctly

so we can't see the perspective module in the development panels:

Is the gateway running on Server 2012, or just your designer? 2012 is not officially supported for running a gateway (you can see requirements for your version here).

The JXBrowser component is the embedded version of Chromium used in the Designer. We keep it relatively up to date, and Google has likely dropped support Server 2012 like it did Windows 7.

You should consider not running the designer on the same machine as your gateway. This avoids memory and CPU contention, and ensures that your gateway's external network is actually set up correctly.

Thanks for your answer pturmel,

Does that mean that is ok for me to work from another machine on the Perspective UI design even there is no data avalible from the DDBB.

But at some point I would need to see Perspective design working on the Windows Server 2012 Machine

Cheers

Thanks Kevin,

Haven´t had luck finding Chromium for Server 2012 yet.

Alejandro, you don't run Designer on the gateway. (You can but you shouldn't.)

  • Set up the gateway.
  • Using your development laptop or some other PC point your web browser to the gateway at <ipaddress>:8088.
  • Hit the Get Designer button. Download and install on your laptop / dev PC.
  • Run Designer and hit the Add Designer button. Enter the path to your Ignition gateway.

... no data avalible from the DDBB.

What is a DDBB?

Haven´t had luck finding Chromium for Server 2012 yet.

You don't need it. You won't be running Designer on the gateway.

Hi, thanks, the thing is that my Windows 2012 server is not connected to the internet, only access is through VNC

DDBB is DB

Cheers.

That doesn't change that you won't be able to run a Designer on this server.

Ok, thanks.

... the thing is that my Windows 2012 server is not connected to the Internet, ...

Then be prepared for some additional work to get the licence activated.

... only access is through VNC ...

I'm not sure what you are trying to tell us here. VNC is Virtual Network Computing so at least your server is networked. If you can make a VNC connection to it (which you will only need to reconfigure the server or restart the gateway) then you should be able to make a Designer connection to it from your company network.
