Using 7.9.9.
My coworker has informed me that several clients intermittently and randomly seem to lose the shortcut on their desktop that opens up the vision program for them. It has happened one more than one client. I don't have an explanation for this. These are all on windows 10 boxes. The last client to complain of this, the short cut was there and working for about a month and then randomly just disappeared one day.
Any one else experience this? Any idea what is going on? Some setting I am missing?
Sounds like IT intervention.

Apparently my coworkers who manage the clients say it only happens if the user clicks the shortcut and the network/gateway at that moment is not available. Certainly not expected behavior from Ignition, I am used to just get the "Connecting..." screen appear until it's closed.
I don't know what kind of IT intervention could do this but it certainly seems that way.
Are these JNLP shortcuts? Or native launcher shortcuts?
My coworker remotes into the client computer, goes to the gateway page and for the appropriate project clicks Launch/Create shortcut. So I guess that is the JNLP shortcut?
Yup. I can image Java Webstart doing strange things with broken links. You need to convert them to the native client launcher. Then they won't be opening the gateway web page--they can have desktop shortcuts that don't involve webstart.

Ok great. Yea it seems like the JNLP shortcut would be put on and that would work well enough until there was some network issue, then they would disappear, and my coworker would just make them another shortcut for them.
I will try the native launcher way. Thanks Phil
Unfortunately (fortunately) my coworker was doing it the right way with the native client launcher.
However, the file was always left in the Downloads folder. Just found out that on windows 10, if it has storage sense on, would delete 30 day old files in this folder (and others) if they have not been modified in the past 30 days. Unfortunately that was not enabled.
Second thing I thought might be an issue is apparently Disk Cleanup runs 10 days after a windows update, but checking that and the Download Folder is not a folder that is affected either.
I am remembering I had this same exact issue at another customer two weeks ago for a thin client installation on a Windows 10 machine as well. Native client launcher downloaded and ran, made the shortcut, worked for a solid couple of months. Then shortcut disappeared.
My best guess at this point is either an operator was in the download folder saw clientlauncher.exe
thought it wasn't important and deleted it, or there is some other IT software on the computer that is clearing out the download folder periodically based on some criteria. Then when the shortcut is used again and can't find the target, it asks if you want to delete the shortcut and someone clicks yes.
Either way definitely some unexpected IT intervention.
Any chance these machines are Window10 Embedded with the Write Filter turned on? Changes to the filesystem won't persist through a reboot. I've seen plant floor machines stay running for months between reboots and then surprise!

Ah that would have been a good call I just checked and unfortunately these are full fledged Windows 10 Enterprise OS based on the system info.
