Hi, is it possible to use an Ignition redundancy license as a standalone, without connecting it to a primary license? I'm planning to purchase two Ignition licenses—quoted as primary and redundancy—but I want to use them separately as standalone systems. Is it possible? Thanks
I don't believe so. I believe the redundancy one must be the backup server of a redundant pair which means you can't connect to it with designer to make changes.
No, the backup license contains a detail indicating its for a backup, and the Gateway its applied to will always assume the role of Backup.
Buying redundancy isn't a cheeky way to get a 50% discount on a second standalone Gateway.
No BOGO deals?
On a somewhat related side note, I thought there was some way though to convert a backup gateway to master if the master gateway became permanently unavailable and you needed to make changes. Or am I dreaming?
Hmm, you'd have to switch it to independent, at which point I'd expect it to end up unlicensed. Not sure though.
Yeah, may just be a matter of that and swapping the license key out and once the other is ready, just putting the backup key on it.
Yes, you have to unactivate the backup license, as it prevents conversion to independent.
