I've got a server running 8.1.25 that I'm trying to upgrade to 8.1.45. In the past, the installer always detected that there was already an Ignition installation on the server and offered to upgrade but that's not happening this time. Thinking it might be the version gap, I tried doing an upgrade from .25 to .27 and the same thing happened. Does anyone know how I can goose the installer into running an upgrade?
Have you verified that:
1.) You are actually trying to install on the right server
2.) The Ignition service is named what the installer is looking for (Default is Ignition)
Assumption is Windows, but if you are using a different OS please specify that.
yeah, I'm running the installer on from the desktop of the Ignition server I want to upgrade. The service name is the default "Ignition". It does recognize that service name is already in use.
I did a quick look around and haven't seen any evidence of other issues with this.
I would suggest taking a backup of the gateway and attempt to go through the process. Obviously upgrading software versions shouldn't be done in production.
You may talk to support about it. I just upgraded an Ignition server from 8.1.37 to 8.1.45 and it worked just fine.
yeah, I couldn't find any indication of anyone else having this problem either. I was hoping that someone from inductive could tell me what it's looking for to know that it's an upgrade and not an installation. It usually takes a moment for the installer to open the "do you want to upgrade" box so I was hoping that it was a check process they could describe. This server is kind of a spare. It's going to be a dev server and isn't in production so I can do whatever I want with it. I was trying to upgrade it as a dry run for 11 other servers I have to upgrade, to see if there was anything unusual I need to be aware of.
Consider taking a backup from it, uninstalling, and wiping the install folders clean. (Be sure to unactivate its license first, if any.) Then install fresh.
Is the current installation in a non-default folder? I don't know what Ignition looks for to determine if it needs an upgrade or a fresh install, but that's one of the first places I would look is where Ignition is currently installed and if not default, make sure it's selected as the installation location.
yeah, it's in the default C:... folder
