Issue with migration of Gateway Events from 8.1 to 8.3

A customer site requested a project be copied from one site using 8.1.xx to another site using 8.3.0. I have no control, and very limited influence on the versions being used as the customer has their own Ignition managment team.

I exported both projects (one “inheritable” and one main (“non-inheritable”) from the 8.1 GW and succesfully imported them into the 8.3 GW many, many weeks ago. I went back in to add some scheduled reporting to the gateway events, but I found that I couldn’t add anything. There is a Exclamation-Triangle with a tool-tip telling me “Migration Required”. The only allowable context menu item is “Export”.

I opened the “inheritable” project and found no events were in the “inheritable” project. The events are all empty, so there isn’t anything to override.

How do I get out of this? I tried adding a default-named Scheduled event in the “inheritable” project, but that had no effect on the main project.

Any suggestions are welcome!

You should contact support, so they can take a live look at your system and carefully tease out what needs to happen.
Most likely, the base state (prior to migration) is somehow something we didn't expect/test for, probably due to some bug long ago.

If you're comfortable with it, in theory you can probably fix it with some surgery on a project export, to then reimport and overwrite on top of (apparently) the 'parent' project.

Consider standing up a temporary 8.3 gateway and moving the complete gateway backup from v8.1 to it. Then export those two projects from v8.3 to move over to the other gateway.

Thanks to you both for your responses.

I will need to work with the GW owner to do either of these suggestions, but I will update this thread when it gets resolved. Thank you, gents!

Relief and chagrin.

The owner of the GW opened the project, as well. He was able to double-click the “Gateway Events” node and, much like Arthur Fonzarelli “clicking” the jukebox, it just started working.

I am 99.8% sure I also double-clicked it and it just ignored me but as long as it is working I am happy enough. I don’t know what goes on under the hood, so I will refrain from speculation on why it worked for him but not for me. The important thing is that it worked!

I’m only sorry I don’t have better detail on what exactly occured.

I had this as well. A bit odd, but yes all you need to do is open the inherited project and open those events from there which will migrate them.then you're on your way. Must be some quirk..
