I am getting the following error when trying to connect to my system from one client:

“Security Exception” - “java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: socket”

Other clients work fine; also the above error is with Internet Explorer 6, Firefox works fine on the same client.

Any ideas what is wrong here?

  1. What version of Java are you running?

  2. Does IE have any proxy settings turned on? If so, maybe go into the Java Control Panel, click on “Network Settings” and use “Direct Connection”. Or talk to your IT dept. if you need a proxy - it sounds like it may be not setup correctly.
