MacOS Sequoia JXBrowser Designer Crash Issue

No, this will require an upgrade.

Which means Sequoia will be unfit for working on older gateways.

I've found a workaround (based on @ynejati 's comment):

I replaced JxBrowser ver-7.35.1 that came with my Ignition 8.1.36, to ver-7.41.2. JxBrowser is found at "/usr/local/ignition/lib/opt/jxbrowser/". Restart the Server, and every Local Ignition project will work again, no more losing the Props UI, or not being able to create a new view. We also need to update "jxbrowser.xml"
to point to the new JxBrowser version. Got JxBrowser 7.41.2 from here: JxBrowser 7.41.2.

But, it cannot run remote Gateway projects, since, in my case, I didn't update the remote Gateway Server's JxBrowser...it's a Live Test server...the Admin won't allow tinkering with it for my sake, so yeah, not useful in a sense...

Interesting data point. QA already tested 7.41.2 and while it resolved the initial crash it performed very poorly and had other regressions.

Well I can barely believe it, but Windows 11 for ARM running on Parallels on my M2 MBP can run both a Designer Launcher and the Designer itself.

This may be a workaround for running any older versions that don't work natively.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We are working with the JxBrowser team (TeamDev) in hopes of resolving this issue as quickly as possible. Thanks for the report. I'm going to go ahead and pin this topic in hopes that it might help others to think before they upgrade their MacOS.

This is what I use, and I've never had a problem with it.

Likewise, it's been solid.

lol, where ya been?

Also - you should check out OrbStack. Puts Docker Desktop to shame

Off topic, but genuinely wild how much faster a widely scaled container architecture runs on Orbstack vs docker desktopā€¦.

We consistently run 10+ container architectures on orbstack that will leverage 2x the resources with docker desktop

Iā€™ve looked at it but I donā€™t like the pricing modelā€¦ too many subscriptions.

I was regretting my decision to buy the 16gb M1 - thinking it surely couldn't handle some of my docker architecturesā€¦ was using VSCode to connect remotely to Docker Desktop on my 64gb windows dev laptop, (and Tailscale to avoid all the port juggling/reverse proxy nonsense).

Gave OrbStack a shot just for giggles. Havenā€™t used the Windows box since.

Was surprised that JXBrowser worked via the x86-arm translation. Iā€™ve been using it for other software for a while. Mostly OPC UA stuff like UaExpert and the CTT.

it's worth it for the automatic reverse proxy alone IMO (I also hate subscription models)

this approach solved my issue, thanks

Not to pile on, just logging another data point that I'm experiencing this issue now. Upgraded to 8.1.41. Thanks for the hard work to fix.

I've been using a new approach:

Running my Ignition Designer (remote Gateway Server is at 8.1.36) from a macOS Sonoma that's within a VM. I'm using UTM, for running the VM. And to make sure copy-paste works across my Sequoia and the VM Sonoma, I use the VM through macOS's Screen Sharing app.

Works fine. Except, sometimes, the network pass-through gives me some issues. Huge lifesaver for the moment, since, I have to continue working on the same remote Gateway Server. The VM runs smoothly. I'm on a M3 Pro 14in, 18gb 512gb. From UTM: 4gb Memory assigned for the VM, and default settings for the Processor.
