Message Handler Popup Scope

Is there a way to have a message handler scope be set to just a popup?

I have a main view with an embedded view that uses a message handler. that main view also has the ability to bring up a popup with the same embedded view where the user can run some test calculations. the issue is that when the user uses the popup version it also updates the main view version. i have the handler set to page scope, i tried view scope but since the message is sent from and embedded view within the embedded view it doesn't work.

There's no such thing as a popup scope. But when you call the popup, can pass along a unique Id that can be included in the payload that the message handler can check. So, technically, multiple things will receive the message, but only the one that has the correct id would execute the work.
