Missing Vision Screens

Last week I ran into an issue where my customer called me because some screens stopped working. When I logged in and looked at it, they didn’t show up in designer and I couldn’t find any spot in the history that showed them being deleted. One screen was still there but when I opened it, it was an extremely old version of it from when it was originally built. Even the newest version of the screen hadn’t been modified in months but the version that was there was over a year old.

When I tried to restore the screens from an export from a backup, it popped up and told me the screens already existed even though they couldn’t be seen in the designer. When I told it to over write the screens they showed up but it leaves me wondering what happened. Has anyone ever experienced an issue like this?

Sounds like one for support to look at, I certainly haven’t experienced it.

How often do you take auto-backups? Sounds like something in internal DB has went skew-wiff.

The auto-backups may of caught it but I didn’t have access to the server they are stored on but I keep manual backups. I’m planning on calling support in just a little bit. I’m going back through backups to see if I can find when it started but not having any luck. These are report screens that don’t get used very often. Last time I see them run was in November, the auto backups don’t go back that far.

I would be requesting the autos’ from the customer.

Also, 7.9.x, which minor?

I already did, was on vacation when it happened so got them back up and running quickly but trying to follow up on it now to find out why it happened. Going through the autos now. Its 7.9.12

My biggest customer is on 7.9.12. We reboot once a quarter because, Windoze (Linux migration planned). Because they are on 7.9.12, my R&D workstation is on .12 too and runs 365 (Linux  )

What’s your server OS?

Its windows, they rebooted to see if it was a fun windows issue but didn’t help. Normally at least once a quarter or more, either the server is restarted or the service has to be for one reason or another.

Which Windows OS?

Were there any updates to Windoze between last checked (Nov) and issue discovered?

server 2012. I can’t speak to updates though. I don’t have direct server access so makes it a little more fun to keep up with whats going on.

Standard or R2?

I can think of other words than fun, lol.

R2

I can to lol

OK, as it happens, my 7.9.12 on Windows is 2012 R2, too.

Did you check the audit log for save/publish events? Does the customer have admin access to designer? Do they meddle?

I checked the logs and there wasn’t any changes with those files in the last couple months. A small group of them do have admin access but they don’t typically do anything in the designer.

I’m assuming something happened with the internal db but will need to wait for support to see if they can come up with anything.

Do you have a gateway redundancy enabled? maybe a failover with an outdated gateway could cause that problem,
