Hello everyone,
I hope to leverage your expertise and suggestions on a current project.
We have two Ignition gateways located at geographically distant sites. Previously, we used a direct radio wireless link between them, but this is no longer available.
Our new plan involves installing a Microtik LTAP LTE router with a static IP SIM card running an OpenVPN server at one site. At the other site, we will use a Teltronika device to provide internet access with an OpenVPN client. This setup aims to connect the two networks and enable remote access for a tag provider.
I have a couple of questions regarding this setup:
- Data Intensity of Remote Tag Provider Connection: How data-intensive is a remote tag provider connection compared to MQTT or similar protocols? Does it mainly depend on the tag setup and update rates?
- Switching to MQTT: Would it be beneficial to switch to MQTT instead?
The primary purpose of this inter-site connection is to remotely monitor the status of station equipment and potentially control or stop equipment operation from the other site's SCADA system.
