Is there a way to prevent a user from opening multiple instances of the client.
We are using the direct jave, (not going through IE6).
We have a shortcut on the desktop, and I think they are clicking it to view the pages, instead of seeing if the pages are already open.

No, there is no direct way to prevent launching multiple instances. If this is a big problem, you could hack something together by putting the client’s IP address in a table in the database and trying to ensure uniqueness, but its going to be messy.
