New Feature: IEC 61850 MMS Driver

We are excited to announce that as of the 8.1.25 release, Ignition will have support for IEC 61850 devices that support the MMS protocol. The driver leverages the Triangle Microworks 61850 library for most of the heavy lifting and supports the following:

General Features:

  1. SCD file support
  2. Quality and Timestamp attributes are applied to the related value attributes*
  3. Support for Windows and Linux x64 OSs only (no Mac or ARM support)

Reporting Control Blocks (RCB):

  1. Automatic handling of enabling and disabling of individual RCBs
  2. Handling of buffered and unbuffered reports
  3. MMS handling of enabled reporting control blocks (we do not poll)

Data Model:

  1. Ability to see the Logical Nodes within the Data Model
  2. Subscribing (Polling) to attributes within in the Logical Nodes**

Scripting Features:

  1. Ability to retrieve control names from a 61850 device
  2. Ability to perform Select, Operate or Cancel operations against controllable data objects with a non status-only value set for their control model.
  3. Ability to list files available via file transfer (if applicable) from a 61850 device
  4. Ability to transfer files to/from a 61850 device from an Ignition Gateway

* To take full advantage of this, a SCD file needs to be used.
** While we support this, the preferred manner of interacting with these attributes is via Reports.

We appreciate any feedback you may have for this driver, and hope that you find it useful!

Is there any plan to support ARM in near future?

Looks like it isn't supported by the Triangle Microworks library. So, don't hold your breath.

Good news to hear that they use Triangle Microworks. Very stable implementation.

As there is no separate item in the price list of the Inductive Automation Page, I believe it includes as a new driver for Platform Pricing($1000) with no additional cost.

You are correct, there will be no additional cost for the 61850 driver and it is included in the pricing of the platform.

ARM support is something we would like to support some day, but I wouldn’t expect it any time soon.
