OPC works in test client, not in Designer

This seems pretty wacky.

I have Ignition 8.0.12 on Win 10. I have Rockwell Emulate 5000 locally on the same machine. The Ignition OPC Test client can find the topic/items in Emulate and read them with good status. Using the same server, when I try to add the tags in Designer they show bad status. Any ideas?

I fixed it by changing the tag group from Subscribed to Polled
