OSI PI JDBC connection

Anyone create a new JDBC connection to a PI data source? I need to run queries on Pi data and not historical data.
Just wondering if anyone has done it. I know some modules are required on the Pi side

Reviving very old topic. Came up on a search when I had the same question about accessing OSI Pi data from Ignition. Attached 2 documents on options (JDBC for SQL queries, legacy OPC-HDA access). Neither approach is perfect, but may be useful in some applications.
