I know this is an old thread, but I ran into this issue today. I couldn't figure out why my row heights were so large when using a column view.

But they either didn't work or felt very hacky.
What I had missed is that the table row height seems to respect the basis value of the container used for the column view. Easy to miss the basis when you just change the default viewport size when developing the view.
