PLC - Ignition Connection (Disconnected: Protocol: EIP - Run Mode)

Hello everyone,

I am trying to connect my PLC to Ignition, but I get the error message below. My Ignition Designer is in a VM, and I can ping the PLC IP address from that VM. Does anyone have information on how to resolve this? Thank you!

The gateway makes the connection to the PLC, not the designer.

  • Can you ping from the gateway to the PLC?

  • What firmware is in the PLC? (If >20, you are using the wrong driver.)

You are correct I was using the wrong driver, thank you for your help!

Hi,
I am facing the same kind of issue.

Connecting : Protocol: EIP - Run Mode.

Could you please help me understand what this means and suggest a solution?

This is a question about your logix version. What version of RSLogix and/or Studio are you using? Depending on this, you will want to change which driver version you apply. Rockwell changed their driver interface around the 20/21 version split.

I'm currently using studio 5000 V32.01

And my plc is 5380 compact logix (5069-L330ER)

Perfect. Make sure you are connecting using this driver:

Ok I'll check and let you know

good morning...i have somwhat of a similar issue...i keep losing communication to my PLC. Everything goes red for a few seconds and in the Gateway i see: "Connected: Browse pending..." and "Connecting: Download Mode"

Can i get a little assistance please?

Download mode means some engineer or technician is messing with the PLC program.

oh wow...no one should have access to the PLC.

If the PLC is power cycled, it might show that briefly before the program is initialized.

we upgraded from v7.9 to v8.3 and had issues, so then we went to v3.1 and that is where we are at now. The version upgrade was a year ago and then we went down for a water tank maintenance project. When we came back online, that is when I started getting the issue i described earlier ...i have not cycled power to the PLC.

Awesome, that gives me an area where i can go and start troubleshooting. sounds like it is a wiring/power issue, not a gateway issue.

Is it stuck in download mode? Are you sure the PLC didn't lose its program after a power cycle? (Bad battery on old CPU, perhaps?)

i can see the PLC in RSLinx and i can go online in my laptop, but in one of our machines that is a client that has RSlinx and RSLogix 5000 in it, i lose connection when ever Ignition loses comms. so it comes and goes.
it is only that one PLC.

Then it is a problem in your network or in the hardware, not in Ignition.

i just thought since i can see it through my laptop i thought maybe it was in the Gateway. Awesome, thank you sir for your help, greatly appreciate :sign_of_the_horns:
