Question about Historical Tag Groups

A new tag provider comes with two Tag Groups: Default and Default Historical. The only difference between these two groups is the execution rate.

If I create a tag in the default tag group, and enable history onChange, are the history settings in the default tag group being applied at all?

Kinda the same question in reverse: if I set my sample mode to tag group, and select the Default Historical group, will the OPC settings in Default Historical be used for anything?

It just seems like I might be missing something about how these two concepts merge – it seems as though historical tag groups and regular tag groups are actually two different things that just share some of the same settings. Is that the correct way to think about it?

Having "Historical" in the name of a tag group doesn't auto-magically make it supply history settings to a tag.

A tag is assigned one tag group for most properties. Any settings that would reference a tag group, other than history, reference that one.

A tag with history configured also has a setting for a second tag group name, which is used for any history properties that apply in group mode.

The assignment to tagGroup or historyTagGroup is the only mechanism that matters.
