Question about updating the ignition version

Hello good afternoon. I am communicating from Monterrey, Mexico. I have a question about the Ignition platform: I would like to know if we can perform an update while retaining our current licenses (currently at version 8.1.18). We want to move to a newer version of Ignition because I intend to implement CSS scripts and redesign the tank graphics. We need to ensure that the production visualization is not affected (specifically with respect to tags defined in code and everything hosted on gateway servers, including database bindings and script-based variables that handle functions similar to tables. What would you recommend or what step should I take?

Licenses cover complete major versions, like 7.9, 8.0, 8.1, and 8.3. Upgrading within a major version, like 8.1.18 to 8.1.54 (the latest in v8.1) does not require a license change.

Upgrading from v8.1 to any v8.3 needs a license change. If you have been paying for support, then you have upgrade protection, and IA sales will make the license change for you for free. Otherwise, you must pay.

That said, upgrades are supposed be problem-free, but aren't always. You should test, test, test. Use a temporary server to install the desired Ignition version and use trial mode to test your application. You will need to spend some effort setting up device simulations and copies of databases to make an effective test.
