Questions about "Modules Not Approved" dashboard field, License Key "In Use" status, and Base License Key / Location fields

Hi all,

I have a few questions related to module distribution and licensing that I couldn't fully clarify from the documentation. Any guidance would be appreciated.

1. "Modules Not Approved" field on the Dashboard

I see a field on the Dashboard labeled "Modules Not Approved." Is this strictly related to Showcase approval/listing? In other words, do I need my modules to go through this approval process in order to sell and license them (outside the Showcase), or is approval only required if I want them listed there? Since I can already generate license keys for my modules, I assume approval isn't a prerequisite for signing/selling — just want to confirm.

2. License keys showing as "In Use" immediately after creation

Every license key I generate is immediately marked as "In Use," even though it hasn't been activated or attached to any gateway yet. Because of this status, I'm unable to delete unused/test keys.

Is "In Use" simply referring to the key being attached to a module (i.e., it's valid and assigned), rather than meaning it's actively activated on a gateway? If so, is there a different mechanism or status I should be looking at to distinguish "created but never activated" keys from "actively running on a gateway" keys?

Also — if this "In Use" status is preventing deletion of keys that were never actually deployed, is this expected behavior, or could this be a bug worth reporting?

3. "Base License Key" field during key creation

When creating a new license key, there's an optional "Base License Key" field. What is this field intended for?

My guess: if a customer already owns Module A and later purchases Module B, I could use the base license key field to attach Module B to the same existing license/key the customer already has for Module A, rather than issuing a completely separate key. Is that the correct use case?

4. "Location" field during key creation

The "Location" field is also optional. Is it recommended to fill this in regardless? And if so, should it reflect my company's location (the seller/module developer) or the end customer's location?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

Where are you seeing the modules not approved message? I'm not sure about the base license and the location questions, but the reason you're seeing the "In Use" message is because all the licenses are generated without grants. If you add a grant, you'll see the license become available. When the license is applied, the grant goes to zero and show as "In Use" again.

So this is whrere it was

Approved modules show up in IA's module showcase. They don't need to be approved to be licensed. Approval follows a request to IA to verify the module metadata, the purchasing URL (on your own webserver), and the presence of a proper EULA within the module.

Just a question related to this , is there a new module showcase project available from inductive automation? Im still using the Vision version they developed a while back.

There is a Perspective-based licensing portal now available through your integrator account.
