Read Siemens PLC Tag Name from Address

Hi,

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get the name of the tag in a Siemens PLC if I have the address of the tag?

For example, my OPC Item Path could be “[PLCName]DB1,REAL0.0”. And I’d like to read the name of the tag at that address, not the value of the tag.

Short answer: No, that is not possible.

The driver in Ignition has no knowledge about the symbolic names. When optimized access is disabled, even the plc itself does not know the symbols.
