Read Tag Group Properties into Script

How can I go about reading the properties for a Tag Group into something like a script? For example, I'm interested in reading items like the mode, rate, and historical settings. For clarity, see sample picture of the settings for a tag group I'm interested in reading.

There are currently no supported functions to get at the properties of a tag group. There are some techniques floating around on the forums...
