I’m looking to find out how to successfully print to a networked printer from a gateway that is running on a virtual server. I tried @JordanCClark method of find the printers on the system using a tag change script and it only returned the “Microsoft XPS Document Writer”. I installed 5 printers on the server and my account is the one that performed the startup of the Gateway. I am at a loss on how to find out what account the Gateway is really working on. Would I have to have my IT department install the printers to the host machine and share them? Is there any other way to print to networked printers?
Go through the "Services" applet in Settings, and open the Ignition Service. Then look at its credentials. The default is "Local System". Installing printers to a desktop user of the server won't add anything to the "Local System" account.
You should have your IT help you set up a dedicated service user account with the necessary printers and network features.
