Screen size for developers

Hi, just curious what size and resolution you run on your developer’s station? I am starting a project for which the clients will mainly be on 24" 1920x1080. I would like to be able to view the whole screen area (without scrolling) in the centre of the designer, without unpinning and moving panels to other monitors.

I think the most common (and therefore the cheapest) size above 1920 x 1080 is 2560 x 1440, normally in 27 inch monitors. I reckon this would do the job without being so massive that it gives problems. Beyond that you’re starting to get into 4K monitors, but windows at normal resolution looks tiny on those things. You also can’t really mix and match them with more ‘normal’ resolutions without a big jump when moving from one monitor to another.

When we last bought monitors we standardised on 1920 x 1200 24 inch monitors with an aspect ratio of 16:10 - this gives just a bit more vertical space than the more common 16:9 monitors and actually makes quite a bit of difference. The matching monitor in the next resolution class up would be 2560 x 1600 but these are uncommon and really expensive. Given the choice now I would probably go with 2560 x 1440 27 inch.

I  my 2560x1600 30" monitor!

My 2 1920x1200 24" monitors are pretty nice as well.

Thanks for the replies. I installed two new graphics cards that allow me to run at a higher resolution and then downscale to the monitor. Can run 2560x1440 and downscale to my current 24" monitors. This allows me to see a 1920px client screen at 1:1 view in the designer. Just maybe is a little small for some of the finer stuff for example in properties browser, so new monitors on the Christmas list.
