Selecting an Operating System

I am planning an initial Ignition purchase and wanted feedback on operating systems. My deployment will be relatively simple and the hardware will be workstation as opposed to server grade. Older versions of Windows allowed us to turn off automatic updates whereas Window 10/11 does not. Is there any advice on setting up Windows machines for a new Ignition deployment?

I have never used Linux OS’, but I would also like to know from the group, have you deployed an Ubuntu solution? Does anybody have a clear picture regarding will I be able to run Ubuntu longer than Windows 10…updating your system because your hardware is old and can’t be replaced is a real bummer. Ubuntu touts a 10-year support window for each release.

Any feedback is appreciated.

You can disable automatic updates in windows 10/11.
see How to stop automatic updates on Windows 10 | Windows Central the group policy method or How to turn off automatic updates in Windows 10 | Tom's Guide disable for good

I’d recommend using whichever OS the person/team maintaining it is comfortable with.

Be careful with that. As far as I remember you would want to choose an LTS - Long-Term Support - version to ensure, ehm, long-term support. These seem to be issued in April each year.

No, LTS is just the April releases in even years. The recent v22.04 is an LTS.

Also note that free LTS support is for five years. You have to pay for years six through ten.
