Sending Select Data Via MQTT

We are wanting to send data via MQTT using the cirrus link module.
However, the request is to only send select data to minimize transmission costs.

How would you recommend doing this?

currently my only thought is to use reference tags to mirror the tags from one provider to another which can then be referenced by the MQTT module.

I feel this is not ideal as it is going to require a lot of manual configuration and I loose the UDT structure.

Is there any other way to only transmit select tags?

This doesn't really make sense to me.

If you have 10 tags at the Edge node it's going to transmit all 10 tags even if you're only "interested" in seeing e.g. 3 of them.

Then on the server, the only way to get the tags into a tag provider is to use a reference tag, as you can't put history on the MQTT folder tags as they disappear and recreate with rebirth,

Sorry if I haven't understood your situation fully, if so please elaborate.

Another consideration is MQTT was designed mainly for being low-bandwidth compared to other architectures, so how many tags are you planning on?

Thanks for the response, I'll provide more specific context.

This is as a means to provide OT data to IT so they can leverage near real time manufacturing data in their reports.

The path way is "Tag provider Gateway" > "IIOT Gateway" > "Azure DataWarehouse"
The tag provider gateway is for our full SCADA so has every tag available (Several thousand), the plan is to use the Cirrus Link MQTT Azure injector to send the data to the Datawarehouse... problem is this is charged based on the number of messages, so IT only want to "subscribe" to information as and when they have the need to. If we sent the whole tag provider this would flood them.
Given how our tag providers are structured there would be little benefit using the sub folders as the target as this would still give them many more than they need.

This very well could be the wrong way to go about this. I'm open to alternatives.
