I’m using Ignition Version 7.9.10 and I finally have everything working just as I want and I have NO issues with anything (as of now!).
I probably won’t add/need anymore “Features” than what I’m using now, the only thing I will be adding is MORE “Tags”, “Transaction Groups”, “Windows/Reports”.
How important is it for me to Upgrade to 8.xx and Perspective?
Yes, no more official support. And as the user base dwindles, not much unofficial support either. Keep in mind that OS updates/upgrades are known to break happy Ignition installs, so you might find yourself stuck on an insecure platform at some point. Or upgrading in a rush. ):
In your situation where you have no pressing need for new features, skipping initial new major versions and then upgrading to new LTS versions likely makes the most sense. We upgraded some systems to 8.0.x as they could really benefit from some version 8 features. There were definitely some upgrade pains. Recently we upgraded another system from 7.9.13 to 8.1.1 LTS when installing it on a new server. This upgrade was completely painless. Depending on features used, you may need to tweak some things, but most of the issues we had with 8.0.x have been completely resolved by 8.1.1.
