Sluggish Remote Tag connection

Hello,

Our team is having an issue with a remote tag provider. We have a central gateway with many remote tag connections. Those tag providers perform well and are able to poll data through the network and display it on Perspective.

However our latest project tends to move data very slowly through the remote tag provider. To make matters worse on Designer we cannot browse that tag provider. It gets stuck on 'Loading' and then designer has a connection timeout.

Has anyone encountered issues with remote tag providers and could have any ideas of how to further troubleshoot this issue?

These details might be helpful:

  • The alarm status table does not show alarms in that remote provider. I had to copy the tags to the central gateway
  • When the remote tag provider gets routed to a different gateway (another remote tag provider which works properly). The tags are actually read faster even though the network path is much longer
  • The status on the GAN connection finds no issues and low ping
  • The diagnostics tool shows 'Success' and low ping
  • The logs do not show much information regarding the GAN

You may want to talk to Support on how to optimize your gateway network connections (i.e., increasing Send/Receive threads, and increasing other default diagnostic settings).

In your Remote Tag Provider configuration, I highly suggest changing Alarm Mode to Subscribed, instead of the default Queried selection. You will notice drastic performance increases.

Thank you for your answer. The tag count of is around 8000. I am not sure what the Total of 2 million in the remote tag queue represents. Read calls perhaps?

I will change the Alarm mode to Subscribed and give it a go. Much appreciated!

I have dug in a bit and found the following.

Oh, duh. Sorry, I misread your screenshot. That's a queue count, not a tag count. Still try the subscribe mode and report back.

If you only have 8,000 tags then something else may be going on that is unrelated to Gateway Network or Remote Tag Providers that's bleeding into your issue. I would definitely reach out to support.
