Tag Group Error After Project Upgrade from 7.8 to 8.1 – Works on Local PC but Fails on Customer Gateway

I’m facing an issue after upgrading a project from Ignition 7.8 to 8.1, and I’m hoping to get some guidance.

The customer has two gateways — one running 7.8 and the other 8.1. We followed the standard step-by-step upgrade process on our local PCs, using the same versions that the customer has. After upgrading to 8.1 locally, everything worked as expected: tag groups (scan classes), UDTs, tags, and objects all behaved correctly.

However, when we imported the same upgraded project into the customer’s Ignition 8.1 gateway, we ran into issues. We imported the project first, then the UDTs, and then the tags. After import, several tags started showing tag group errors. Even after importing the corresponding tag groups, the errors did not clear.

What’s strange is that we tested the exact same import sequence on our local setup, and it worked perfectly — even when importing the tag groups after the tags.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What could be causing tag group errors on the customer gateway but not on our local environment?

Any suggestions or troubleshooting steps would be appreciated.

Known issue:

I had the same occurrence. My solution was to just rename the tag group and it started working.
