This might be a dumb question… (I know SCADA, not PLC), but would it be plausible to create an Ignition driver that accepted an EDS file to talk to different EtherNet/IP devices?
That would be scanner mode. My Ethernet/IP module, premium version, supports scanner mode. At this time, you have to decipher the EDS file by hand, following the instructions in the manual for the module.
