Is there anyway to format the text messages that are sent out for alerts? I would like to be able to get ride of the "FRM:xxxxx@xxxx.com", “SBJ:xxxxxxxx”, and “MSG:” so that way the only thing that is displayed is the message itself. Makes the text message kind of cluttered with all of the other stuff. I’m assuming that this isn’t something you can do from Ignition since it is handle by the phone carriers/email servers when converting the message. Figured I’d ask just in case.
Thanks,

If you’re talking about the legacy alert stuff (pre-7.6) where you are really sending an email that gets converted by the carrier to an SMS then you’re right - nothing can be done.
The new alarming stuff in 7.6, however, has real SMS support (via hardware+sim or a Twilio account) and you have control over the contents of the message.
Kevin, I appreciate the feedback!
I’m curious about the Twilio module. I wasn’t really able to find much documentation on it. Is there something I may have missed? Wondering how the module interfaces with Twilio? Reason I ask is because our Ignition server is on a very strict network with many firewall protections. Very large company too so it is hard to get them to make changes to the rules. Is there a port that this module needs access to? Port 80? Any other things that could be a problem trying to use this module?
Thanks,
-Will
It’s a module that’s available in the market place for Ignition 7.6. I’m afraid there’s not too much documentation for it, but it really doesn’t do very much other than provide an alarm notification profile that knows how to talk to Twilio. I’m pretty sure it communicates via web service calls on port 80, so no additional ports would need to be opened.
While the module isn’t free, you can always download it from the market place and try it out first to make sure it works the way you want.
