The same gateways name in Ignition redundancy

In my organization someone has setup a redundancy between Master and Backup server. They kept gateway name same for both the Ignition gateways. Whatever the name they have been assigned for Mater gateway the same name have been assigned for backup gateway. Would that make any problem in future?

The guy who has configured this settings is not longer working in organization. So, I am not sure this would make any impact on gateways.

Hi ,

You can change the Gateway name is Backup PC, Ignition Gateway Web Browser Page > Config > System > Gateway Settings > System Name > Edit. If it would not allow you to edit , Go to Redundancy and make it to Independent and then you can change gateway name. When the name is changed do not forget to change redundancy state back to Back

Gateway names are supposed to be identical in a redundant pair.

Where is that documented?

We have quite a few redundant pairs and none of them have the same gateway name.

When messaging or establishing remote tag providers, the common name is used for the pair, and traffic routes to the active member of the pair. I don't think that can work if they are different.

They actually show up as 3 gateways in the gateway network.

Assume the gateway names are GW-01 (Primary),GW-02(Backup)

In the gateway network they show as

GW-01

GW-01-Master

GW-01-Backup

I might be way off and have been configuring them wrong for years, but the system has never balked or faulted due to them having different gateway names?
