Connecting Inductive Automation Ignition to a Beckhoff Automation controller used to involve a detour: find the AMS Net ID, type it in, then log into the PLC and register an AMS route before Ignition could talk to it at all.
On Ignition 8.3, that detour is gone.
Discover Devices — one click broadcasts on the gateway's own networks and lists the controllers that answer, grouped by device with a row per transport each one offers: plain AMS, Secure ADS, TLS-PSK.
Pick one and the form fills itself in. It never fills in a password — a broadcast tells you where a device is, not how to authenticate to it.
Test Connection — asks the driver to diagnose the configuration exactly as entered and tells you what's actually wrong, instead of a red cross.
Register the AMS route from Ignition — when the diagnosis is "no route on the controller", the fix is offered right there. Enter the controller's administrator account once; it's used for that single
call and never stored.
