Trial Expiration Before Full Period

Hello Experts,

I’m currently noticed that the trial period seems to be expiring much earlier than expected. Specifically, the trial gateway shows that it will expire in 2 hours, even though I haven’t reached the usual 2-hour full trial window or the expected 12-hour total daily limit.

Details:

  • Ignition Version: 8.1.48
  • Platform: Windows 11
  • No other gateway sessions were active to my knowledge
  • Trial wasn’t manually reset or extended earlier today

Issue:

Even after resetting the trial, I’m seeing that the available time is already reduced, and the gateway disables editing and session interaction sooner than expected.

Can someone confirm:

  1. Whether this is expected behavior?
  2. If there’s a fix or a workaround to regain the full trial time (e.g., resetting clock, daily limit, etc.)?
  3. If my trial is locked due to something like a virtualized environment or licensing issue?

Appreciate any guidance here — I’m trying to finish a critical evaluation before committing to a license.

Thanks in advance!

There is no 12 hour total daily limit that I'm aware of. If you need to do an official trial evaluation, reach out to your sales rep and they can get you a longer trial that can last longer (days rather than hours) if you're an integrator. (They may do it for non-integrators also, but you'd just have to check). Otherwise, I don't have an answer.

Maybe you have unlicensed 3rd party modules that require a trial reset?

Note:

  • Restarting a gateway doesn't reset the trial time. It continues from where it left off.
  • Only the web interface can reset the trial time, and it must be allowed to run out naturally before you can reset it again.
  • I've never heard of a 12-hour daily limit.

After a few restarts of the gateway, the issue was resolved. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions!
