Hello,
I am trying to get started with Ignition and having trouble to get the designer to start. Following the getting started guide here, I face issues when I try and download and run the Designer launcher. I start the ignition server, download the Designer using the “Get Designer” button in the UI and then when I click “Open Designer” in the Designer Launcher, a pop up box (see below) will repeatedly pop up, progress to 100%, disappear and then come back. This happens indefinitely. I have poked around the forum and deleted the cache in the .ignition directory as recommended in some threads but that did not help. I have also inspected the logs in the clientlauncher.log file but don’t see anything out of the ordinary.
Any ideas? Thanks!
In the log files the launcher should log the full command it uses to launch the designer. Can you copy/paste that into a terminal and run it and then attach the full output here?

The command in the log file was run as nohup but I did not run it with nohup so as to not obfuscate the output. As with previous executions, the pop-up window will appear, seem to complete and then come up again.
@jcoffman you have any idea what’s going on there?
It looks like something is getting in the way of identifying that the runtime is already downloaded. I haven’t seen this issue before. could you “manage” the designer you are launching and add the -Dignition.bootstrap.debugLog=true JVM argument? it should print out a new log file for each relaunch (basically each time it downloads the runtime) which might give us some insight as to what is happening. Do this:

clear the cache at ~/.ignition/cache

“manage” the application
-
Add the argument to the “JVM Arguments” section

Look in ~/.ignition/ for log files with the prefix launch_debug_ and grab the first and second log file (there are timestamps appended which should help identify them) and either post them here or DM them to me so i can look them over?

To circle back here: It looks like there was an issue with the home directory here. /local/home/USERNAME and /home/USERNAME were being looked at for the .ignition folder. Im going to investigate this a bit more to potentially open a ticket internally to handle this on our end.
For now the workaround was to add a redirect.txt file in /home/USERNAME/.ignition pointing to /local/home/USERNAME/.ignition
