Upgrading from 8.1.38 to 8.1.45 issues

I am trying to upgrade from .38 to .45 from an EAM to multiple sites. It stops the service, creates the backup in the Ignition folder on the respective server and sits forever while never restarting or actually upgrading. Not seeing anything telling me what the issue is. Any info is appreciated.

This sounds familiar. I believe the EAM method essentially performs the ‘unattended zip’ install method, which hung after unzipping the java libs in some manual testing. This bug was fixed in 8.1.43: Ignition Release Notes for Version 8.1.43 | Inductive Automation

So how does that affect .45 install?

 good question - I guess I didn’t stop and think before responding. Theoretically it shouldn’t, but perhaps there’s a regression or some lingering dependencies (i found several differences between the installer and zip methods that caused issues - specifically some cleanup the installer does that the zip method does not)

might be worth a support ticket - or give the manual zip method a try in a test environment to see if it hangs.

to be fair I haven’t tried your exact scenario myself.
