Upgrading Zulu OpenJDK for the Designer

Hi All.

I’ve been getting in trouble with my IT team for running the Designer that I got from my remote Gateway version 8.1.47. Apparently Azul Zulu OpenJDK 17.54.22 has a vulnerability, and I need to upgrade to a higher version.

I tried the google approach which led me to downloading a newer version jre and replacing the on in the Designer .exe directory and clearing the cache file. However, this didn’t seem to work because it looks like Designer gets its own Java at startup.

Any tips on making this transition work would be appreciated.

In ~/.ignition/clientlauncher-data/designer-launcher.json you'll find entries for each Designer target defined in the launcher.

Each of these should have a custom.jre.path key/value pair that you can edit the value of to point to your custom Java install.

Also Ignition 8.1.50 will have an upgraded version of OpenJDK that fixes the vulnerability. Tentative release date for this Ignition version is Sept 30th.
