drewdin, if you have the Symbol Factory module, pipes are easy and look nice. Here is an example of a special device called a four-dimensional steam combiner.

I would hate to have to do pipes with lines. I don’t know how you would do curves unless you drew a ppe section with the pencil tool. Crossing pipes wouldn’t be fun either.
If you want to make nice curved lines, select the line tool, on the top of the tool bar there are three options for what type of line you want to draw, select the curved line, draw your line between two points, then select the Path tool, then you’ll find your points for making the Bezier Curves.
The built in Pipe Segment and Pipe Joint components located under the Misc tab are pretty handy for drawing pipes. Here’s a tip - try creating a template and placing the Pipe Segment component on the template, make the Pipe Segment the same size as the template then use the template on your windows. By altering the template you can easily change all the piping in your project, say for changing the color or to add additional functionality.

As Pat notes, the built in pipe components in the Misc section of the Component Palette (not Symbol Factory) work quite well. They were used to make the useless pipe crossing gizmo in the attached screenshot. Note they are customized via settings in the Property Editor (or can be customized dynamically at runtime via settings in right-click->Customizers->Style Customizer). The screenshot below shows the Component Palette with the two pipe components, as well as some relevant settings in the Property Editor.
If you don’t see all the settings you want in the Property Editor, try setting its filter to “All” (see menu under funnel button in screenshot below.
I also second Pat’s suggestion to put these in templates to make it easy to make system wide appearance changes.
I had seen the pipe segment and pipe joint before, but had no idea the joint had properties to make it a bend instead. I just never experimented with it to find that out. Thanks for the information, witman. Good to know.
You’re welcome RRRancher. I’m just getting started with Ignition and stumbled on these properties via the Style Customizer while fumbling around trying to figure out how to make stuff look like I wanted it to. Then I realized everything in the Style Customizer was available in the Properties Editor (depending on filtering). So it’s Properties Editor for static properties and Style Customizer for dynamic properties.
This works very differently from previous HMIs I’ve used (CitectSCADA, Wonderware, C-More, PanelBuilder…), but in general that is looking like a very good thing.
One more question with piping, is there any tricks you guys know of that would allow me to have stripped fill color on a pipe? similar to a barbers pole, 45 degree stripes of green/white? I have been poking around and I have been unable to get what i need.
I wasn’t sure if anyone else tried this or had any tips, thanks!
