Using SEL RTAC opc-ua server

Probing the hive mind here to see if anyone else has used one of the following with the OPC-UA feature and gotten a gateway to connect as a client, use it as an OPC UA server and browse tags on it? We know it is possible according to the documentation – but the discrepancy between documentation and reality is sometimes quite vast. We’re looking at using one, but have yet to be able to get one to bench test/do a shake down of the process so are hesitant. If any experiences can be shared that would be great!

Known rtacs with OPC UA feature:

  • SEL‑3350 RTAC
  • SEL‑3555 RTAC
  • SEL‑3560 RTAC

There's a thread here where people have all been connected and dealing with some other issues.

That was a few years ago and the OPC UA server feature had just been released, it's probably in a bit better shape now. I've also seen via support a few instances of people connected this way.

The hardest part of the RTACs is the tag mapping 27step process you have to go thru.

Easiest way - have Sweitzer's tech support remote in and walk you thru setting things up for a device. It's not terribly difficult (although stupidly tedious) to do so once you see the actual steps.
