Going to call technical support in a but someone must have run into this before.
Have a Ignition 8.1.47 gateway with 50+ vision clients.
It recently did windows updates and when they tried to login they were getting an error they they could not find the scripting module in the project. I thought it was odd, checked designer, I saw it there, started a client on my machine and it all worked.
My solution for the few affected machines was to have them delete their .ignition cache folder, remake the link to the gateway, start up the application, this worked.
This morning some of those machines I fixed started experiencing this again.
I have not restarted the gateway because it did not seem like a gateway problem but that is my next move most likely. However I am a bit at a loss. Anyone recover from a scenario like this?
I don't know the solution, but I think I can read @pturmel's mind, and he's probably thinking the fix is to ditch Windows and put Linux on everything. LOL
Antivirus stomping on things? Windows defender?
Solution: Migrate to Linux. No excuse not to post-AI.
Apparently they did do windows updates recently on these machines. So something happened. And I was also misinformed, there was a separate issue they thought was related but it was not. The cache delete did permanently fix those affected machines thankfully so I am actually going to say this is resolved.
@bobby.miller I would if I could but they're completely hard locked into the microsoft garden. No way it happens lol. Despite being at this nearly a decade actually I have never worked at a customer that had linux. Always windows. I've recommended it before, but what happens is the rest of the company is windows and it works well enough so why change? Is the thinking at least.
Yea, 15 years same experience. I feel a sea change today. Windows no longer works. Agents want to work in Linux. The dam will break.
Months, not years in my view.
Already happening. Desktop Linux market share has spiked.
I will say even on the consumer side I have multiple friend who are not technical moving to ubuntu so I do agree its happening thankfully.
