Water/Wastewater Perspective Symbols

Does anyone else feel like the symbols on perspective are very limited? I work in the water industry and I need symbols for field devices such as flowmeters, clear wells/ponds, variety of analyzers (PH, chlorine residual, ORP), generators, canal & water distribution gates. The Vessels and Pumps symbols are not the only field devices in this industry. I get the need to simplify HMI screens, but I believe it is a waste of time for integrators if we have to custom build these symbols, while Ignition claims that Perspective is full fledge SCADA software. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I would like to see symbols for these commonly used field devices found in the water industry.

Welcome!!

You have a little catching up to do. Perspective doesn't have any native drawing tools (yet), but you can draw really whatever you want externally with a 3rd party tool like Inkscape and import as SVG.

Ignition 8.3 adds drawing tools to perspective. In the mean time you can draw SVGs in inkscape to use in perspective. I would recommend selecting the "embed" option when you drag/drop an SVG onto your screen.

Meter Head

Here's a meter drawing I did a while back if it's helpful to you.

Regarding symbols and 8.3, this has me wondering what the future is for symbol factory and the symbols palette in Perspective. As mentioned on the data center demo thread yesterday, I just use embedded views for symbols and diagram components. Is there a benefit to using the symbols palette instead of embedded views? They seem less capable, even if they could be a bit more performant.

I do embedded SVGs in embedded views. I animate them using indirect bindings. I do the indirect bindings off a partial tag path that points it to a UDT instance.

I agree it wouldn't make sense to do embedded SVGs with unique animations across a P&ID view. I'm glad you pointed that out because I don't want to misguide someone with things I should have explained better.

Something like a flow meter I might not animate (depends).
