Where to find the .modl file for the IIoT Module

Hello! I have an ignition edge instance that I would like to install the IIoT Module on.

If I go into the Config tab and look at the Overview section, it says that the Ignition Edge IIoT module is available

I then press Install+ which takes me to Config>Modules which shows a list of installed modules. The IIoT module is not listed which makes sense.

I then press Install or Upgrade a Module... at the bottom of the page and am brought to a page that asks for a *.modl file.

Where can I find this file? The page says that they can be downloaded from the website but I cannot find the IIoT module in the module downloads archive

It's not an actual module, it's a "plugin" activated by licensing parameters.

What version of Ignition Edge is this?

edit: ah, it's taking you to the modules page so you can install those 3rd party drivers it mentions. They are listed by name and available at https://inductiveautomation.com/downloads/third-party-modules/8.1.43

This is functionality offered by Cirrus Link, so you'd go here:

But the name is a bit misleading--t The core of the IIoT functionality is actually the MQTT Transmission module, IIRC.

Edit: right there in the screenshot...

@pturmel

Thank you both for your quick replies.

My ignition edge version is 8.1.21.

And I'm sorry I'm a little confused. I understand now that it is not a module but a plugin. Do I need to install different plugins? The only thing I care about is Ignition Edge IIoT exposes Edge's OPC UA server to external OPC UA clients.

The license should have already enabled that part. But you'll have to configure the OPC UA server to listen for and allow external connections.

Prior to 8.1.40, the MQTT Transmission module does also have to be installed.

I would still download the latest if possible or at least match the version of the server you're connecting to if you're connecting to an Ignition MQTT Engine on the host side. The latest version just posted a week ago or so, also added some great new features that I haven't had a chance to check out yet, but they're related to alarming between edge and standard as well as UNS support on the MQTT Engine side.

okay I see. I went into the OPC UA server settings and saw that there is no option to set the Bind Address. Given the other comments, is it best to update my ignition edge instance? I have it running natively on a opto22 PLC.

If so, does that change my license in any way? Or do I need to pay more for my license after I update?

There shouldn't be any issues with licensing, but you may want to check with Opto regarding any additional considerations when upgrading.

In the meantime, you could install a version of the MQTT Transmission module that's compatible with 8.1.21.

From the Cirrus Link Compatibility Matrix, you should be able to use versions 4.0.13 - 4.0.21

4.0.21 can be found on this page.
